NSPCC Charity Day
Driving Forward For The NSPCC
September 2009
Ryan’s work as a race instructor often brings him into contact with some very interesting people from the world of motorsport and beyond. Recently he has tutored, amongst others, former McLaren Supremo Ron Dennis.
In the last week he was proud to take part in a charity day held on behalf of the NSPCC which saw well known names from sport and the world of celebrity take to the race track to be instructed whilst raising vital funds for the Child’s Voice appeal.
Amongst the drivers to be put through their paces were boxer Amir Khan, former Rugby player turned TV star Austin Healy and TV chef James Martin. Also on hand were former F1 stars Damon Hill, David Coulthard, Derek Warwick and Mark Blundell.
But it’s a feather in the cap for all the women drivers, as of the many people Ryan tutored in the day it was Dragon’s Den panellist Deborah Meaden who came in for praise.
“Deborah was very good” said Ryan. “She was very focused and a pleasure to tutor. She certainly wasn’t a dragon!”
To-date the Child's Voice appeal has raised £18.1 million. The extra funds will mean that ChildLine's volunteers can counsel 500,000 more calls every year. For further information, visit www.childsvoiceappeal.org.uk
