Top 8 In Magny Cours For The Birthday Boy!
The penultimate round of the 2009 VdeV Championship took place at Magny Cours, France. Ryan celebrated his birthday on the Friday but there was no time for partying as a hard six hour race lay ahead of him and driving partner Derrick Collin.
Magny Cours is a great circuit, and a firm favourite with drivers. It is extremely challenging and lived up to that reputation in practice and qualifying. Ryan put in a great lap to take 7th on the grid.
By Sunday, all eyes were on the sky. As the cars lined up on the grid , the heavens opened. The entirety of the race took place on torrential rain which added further excitement to the race. Ryan and Derrick, in the Norma, had a solid plan for the 6 hour event with Ryan opening and closing for the team and Derrick putting in a solid middle stint.
The 30 car race saw plenty of action thanks in part to the weather but Ryan and Derrick kept it on the black stuff – which was half the battle! Ryan crossed the line in 8th place to see the team bag more valuable points.
Ryan and Derrick know lie 5th in the VdeV Championship in their debut year.
Their next VdeV race, the final of the season, will take place on 20-22 November at Estoril, Portugal. Again, it will be a 6 hour race – a great way to end a thrilling season.
